An intimate view of one young woman’s battle with HIV, the compelling 14-minute documentary Ali Gertz: In Her Own Words chronicles the last four years of Alison Gertz’s life—from shortly after her diagnosis with HIV at the age of 22 to her death in 1992 at the age of 26. The video and companion lesson guide are approved by the New York City Department of Education.

It offers the basic facts on HIV/AIDS, including statistics on youth and HIV. It includes video discussion questions and exercises that engage participants. And it provides handouts, additional resources, and ideas for young people about how they can get involved in the fight against HIV.
