An extraordinarily diverse roster of trained health educators and people living with HIV make up the Love Heals Speakers Bureau. Speakers share basic facts on HIV/AIDS and use their own stories to reinforce the message that young people must educate and protect themselves. Each workshop lasts from 45 to 180 minutes—and is generally followed by a discussion period during which participants are encouraged to ask any and all questions, assured they will receive honest, complete answers. Groups include as few as eight and as many as 1,000 participants.
The Speakers Bureau works in partnership with the New York City Department of Education to provide public middle and high school students with lessons toward fulfilling the HIV/AIDS education mandate. We also partner with private schools, community-based organizations, religious institutions, juvenile incarceration programs, colleges and universities, peer-education programs and programs serving newly diagnosed individuals.
The leading provider of HIV/AIDS education in New York City, the Love Heals Speakers Bureau has reached more than 565,000 young people throughout the five boroughs, Long Island and Westchester County—including 49,000 in 2012 alone.
