Building on the success of LEAP for Girls, Love Heals launched the LEAP for Girls Alumnae Program, which provides learning, networking and skills-building opportunities for those who wish to advance in their work as community educators and activists. The program also lends support to graduates as they pursue their own life goals.
LEAP for Girls alumnae are spreading the word about HIV prevention in their classrooms, around the family dinner table and throughout their communities. To date, these efforts have included street outreach, safer sex kit distribution, advocacy and social networking—including iLove, an online peer education project.
In addition, alumnae have the opportunity to serve as interns in the Love Heals office and as facilitators-in-training for subsequent cycles of LEAP for Girls. They also serve as a sounding board for new programs and policies at Love Heals and throughout New York City.
